Sitting in the gap.
Nonrelation was an indie rock band active from 2021–2022 that I sang and played guitar in, named after Jacques Lacan's claim that a structural gap exists between two people which no amount of love can ever close.
While I ultimately reject that this gap is unclosable, it is a very real human experience, and these songs are about navigating it. They're about friction generated by miscommunication, inconsistencies, and the desensitization that follows when a connection gets fogged by obscurity.
These songs sit inside the gap when it fails to close.
